The Technical Advisory Committee is a five (5) member committee, set up according to state statute. It consists of the county surveyor, county engineer, executive director of the Plan Commission office, a representative from the Health Department, and a representative from the Soil Conservation office.
This Committee meets every Friday morning, providing they have business. The Committee is, as its name implies, an advisory committee, and is a working branch of the Plan Commission. The Committee reviews a variety of projects, including new subdivisions, both primary and secondary plats, new commercial buildings or additions and new industrial buildings or additions. They review proposed drainage plans and other infrastructure improvements, along with ascertaining that the local ordinance requirements are being met. They also review and approve Minor Subdivision plats, which are those subdivisions containing four (4) lots or less.
While the public is welcome to attend Technical Advisory Committee meetings, it should be remembered that they are charged with reviewing the technical aspects of a project, and it is not a public hearing, as are those held by the Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals. The public is not invited to speak at these meetings because it is not a public hearing. The matters that are heard by this Committee, in many cases, are forwarded to the appropriate Board or Commission after the technical review is completed, and a public hearing is held at that level.
The Technical Advisory Committee's clerical support staff is located in the Porter County Plan Commission office, in the Porter County Administration Center. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
There are filing deadlines that must be met in order to be heard by this Committee. Please call the Plan Commission office for more information.
