Students earn one high school credit per class. Students must be at least 16 years of age and not currently attending regular high school. CAPABLE Family Literacy Program - Parent(s) and child(ren) attend at the Portage Adult Education Center. Parent participates in parenting education, adult academic improvement, and supervised parent-child interaction. Children 6 weeks to 6 years of age participate in age-appropriate activities and supervised parent-child interaction. Parent must be at least 16 years of age and not attending regular high school. Child must participate in program with parent. Available Monday-Thursday from 9:30am-1:00pm. Program, child care, and transportation provided free of charge. A work component is mandatory for enrollment. Interested students must get approval from their home school who will then make a referral. Alternative Middle School - Small program for 7th or 8th grade students who need non-traditional approach to learning. Pro-social education and learning personal responsibility are major components of the program. Interested students must get approval from their home school who will then make the referral. After-School Options - Credit earning, computer program which is held after school hours. Referrals are made by the high schools. Porter County Juvenile Probation 1660 South SR 2 Valparaiso, IN 46385 (219) 465-3475 Fax: (219) 465-3600 E-Mail: juvprob@porterco.org Juvenile Probation Department - Serves under the Circuit Court Judge of Porter County. It is the duty of the Probation Department to review all complaints and allegations concerning matters covered by juvenile law. The Probation Department shall prepare and submit reports and recommendations as directed by statute and the Court, supervise and assist all juveniles and families as ordered by the Court, and maintain records of all matters within the Probation Department. Hours are Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. Closed on holidays. Chronic Offender Response Team- A collaborative effort of the juvenile court system, schools, police agencies, and social service agencies to identify juveniles on probation who exhibit behaviors which would indicate that they may continue to commit delinquent acts without the intervention of additional attention and supervision. A case manager provides services to juveniles and their families in their homes during evening hours and weekends. Referrals are received from the Chronic Offender Response Team organizations. |
