Following is a list of classes available to the business community and public.

Most classes are free, however, the CPR and First-Aid classes require a manual and certification card from the certifying agency and a fee is charged by those agencies. The sponsor or attendees are responsible for this fee. The sponsor is responsible for the cost of recharging any extinguishers that are used in the extinguisher class.

Are You Ready
This is a 60-90 minute program that covers a multitude of areas: fire safety, tornado safety, etc.

This overview stresses the need for all of us to be prepared to take care of ourselves and families during severe weather and other times when the local emergency services may be overwhelmed by the magnitude of the situation. The length of time depends on questions from the audience.

Tornado Safety
This is a 45-minute program that deals with tornado safety only.

Disaster Preparedness
This is a 45-minute program that deals with how to prepare for and what to do during a severe winter storm.

Fire Safety & Preparedness
This multi-part program can vary greatly in length, depending on what areas the sponsoring agency wishes to cover. Topics may include: home safety, home escape plan, how to escape, and/or fire extinguishers. Each area can be a separate presentation and takes about 45-60 minutes.

Fire Safety for Nurses
This course is designed for nurses in hospital, nursing home, and the Visiting Nursing Association (VNA) setting. Each class is adjusted for the area of nursing being instructed.

American Red Cross - Community First Aid & Safety
This is an eight-hour course that is certified by the Porter County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Certification cards are issued upon satisfactory completion of course.

Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation
This course is taught to the standards of the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association. Certification cards issued upon satisfactory completion of course.

Event Planning
This course works with people planning a large event and covers areas including security, safety, Community Environmental Monitoring Program (CEMP).

In this class you will learn how and when to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). Certification from American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is included upon satisfactory performance.

Pet Survival
This course is designed to help the public plan for their pet's safety when a disaster strikes.
