Budget & Finance

The Porter County Council adopted the proposed 2017 county government budgets on Oct. 27. Here are some highlights:

  • Based on the proposed levy, the county government's tax rate is projected to decrease for the fourth year in a row in 2017.
  • Most full-time county employees will receive a $1,500 raise. In an effort to improve salary parity, some employees received higher pay adjustments.
  • Six new full-time positions were approved in the county's General Fund: Two 911 dispatchers, two Animal Shelter employees, a Juvenile Probation case manager, and a Juvenile Detention Center tutor. Four other existing positions were moved into the General Fund from other funds.
  • County employee health insurance will be funded from the same mix of sources as in 2016, with projections for the highest carry-over balance in recent years.
