You can make a difference by volunteering at the Porter County Animal Shelter
HOW YOU CAN HELP: BATHING - helps to make the animals more adoptable. Improves health and attitude by removing ticks, fleas, matted hair and burrs. WALKING & SOCIALIZING - gives the animals a chance to get exercised and relieves stress. Helps to calm active dogs. Helps us to better know the animals personality so they have a better chance of being adopted by the right family. ASSISTING IN EDUCATION PROGRAMS - one of the best ways to solve the pet overpopulation crisis is to educate people on the benefits of spaying and neutering their pets. Some people also need guidance and education on how to be responsible pet owners. This helps to improve the quality of life for the pets in our community as well as the public. REQUIREMENTS: Age: must be fourteen years of age or older. Safety: everyone must wear long pants, work boots or gym shoes. Protection: we suggest everyone have a current tetnus shot. Injury: if you are bitten or scratched report this to a Shelter employee immediately. Restricted Areas: all volunteers are not permitted to handle any animals in bite quarantine, isolation kennels and any kennel marked with a "caution" tag. We welcome any suggestions to expand and improve our Volunteer Program. Thanks to the volunteers listed below we are able to give the animals a little extra attention while they are here: Phyllis Broda - Coordinator Jenniffer Pierce - Assistant Coordinator Michelle Berube, Bart Botkin, Bobby Kundly, David Barnes, Kori Byers, Al Reichle, Heidi Richardson, Britney Harbit, Kathleen Martin, Donna Cary, Sarah Taylor, Fred Hershberger, Ken Berger, John Holmen, Katie Horan, and Ali Harper. |
