Welcome to the Porter County Animal Shelter / Control web site. Additional information regarding the Porter County Animal Shelter can be found at www.portercoanimalshelter.petfinder.org.
The Porter County Animal Shelter is located in Valparaiso, Indiana, about fifteen miles south of Lake Michigan. We service all of the unincorporated area of the county plus six municipalities within the county. We handle about four thousand animals each year in the shelter plus around six hundred complaints each year ranging from complaints of running loose animals to cruelty and neglect.
Our shelter and all of the operations are overseen by an animal welfare board which consists of fifteen citizens from our county. The shelter staff consists of the director who is in charge of the shelter, one director's assistant/secretary, four animal control officers, one full time kennel caretaker, and one part time kennel caretaker. In addition to the regular staff we have volunteers that come in and help with the extra things we sometimes do not have the time to do.
We hope you find our web site enjoyable and informative. We are always open to suggestions that may improve our site. Please let us know what you are interested in and we will try to provide that information to you either by telephone or on the web.
