September, 2017 Volunteer Orientation Program

Full Description

Have you ever considered giving your time to help the animals at the Porter County Animal Shelter?  Here is your chance to learn to become a volunteer!

Our Volunteer Orientation is a three part training.  The first session of our September Orientation will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, September 6 at the NEW Porter County Animal Shelter located at 3355 Bertholet Boulevard in Valparaiso. This session is instructional and will NOT include a tour of the new building.  For session one, please enter through the Sally Port (door next to the overhead garage door on the south side of the front of the building).

Session Two will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 10, also at the Shelter.  This session will include a tour of the new facility.  Please enter through the main door for this session.

The third part is shadowing an employee and can be scheduled at your convenience.

Be sure to download and complete a Volunteer Application Form and bring it with you to the first session.  You can CLICK HERE to download the form.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Inside The Shelter:  Giving attention to the animals, walking dogs, petting the animals, grooming, cleaning cages/kennels, general help.
  • Outside The Shelter:  Manning booths at fairs and pet adoption events, fundraising, telephone calling (volunteers, donations), assisting with education programs in schools, distribution of pet flyers, etc.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older.  If you are under the age of 18, your parent/guardian must be present to sign the volunteer application.
  • Must complete a Volunteer Application.
  • Must successfully complete a three part Volunteer Orientation.
  • Must execute a Waiver Of Liability
