April 2017 Volunteer Orientation Program

Full Description

Have you ever considered giving your time to help the animals at the Porter County Animal Shelter?  Here is your chance to learn to become a volunteer!

The Shelter has revamped our Volunteer Orientation to a three part training.  The first session of our February Orientation will be held at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, February 1st in the Education Center at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, 775 N Meridian in Valparaiso. Session Two will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, February 5 at the Shelter.  The third part is shadowing an employee and can be scheduled at your convenience.

Be sure to download and complete a Volunteer Application Form and bring it with you to the first session.  You can CLICK HERE to download the form.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Inside The Shelter:  Giving attention to the animals, walking dogs, petting the animals, grooming, cleaning cages/kennels, general help.
  • Outside The Shelter:  Manning booths at fairs and pet adoption events, fundraising, telephone calling (volunteers, donations), assisting with education programs in schools, distribution of pet flyers, etc.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older.  If you are under the age of 18, your parent/guardian must be present to sign the volunteer application.
  • Must complete a Volunteer Application.
  • Must successfully complete a three part Volunteer Orientation.
  • Must execute a Waiver Of Liability
